Workshop Today! Funding and Design for Soaking up the Rain

Our fourth Can We Rehydrate California online gathering.

TODAY February 21st: Our fourth 'Can We Rehydrate California?' workshop: Soaking up Rain—Funding and Design 8:00-9:30 AM PST (11-12:30 AM EST). This is the fourth in a series of rather extraordinary gatherings of people coming together around the audacious goal that Walter Jehne and I explored in a tour in 2018. The recordings of the first three gatherings can be accessed when you sign up for this workshop. Feel free to dive in even if you haven't attended the earlier ones. (And even if you don't live in California...)

In this workshop I'll be joined by David McConville and Rosey Jencks, to look at Los Angeles County's Safe Clean Water Program that provides funding to projects that help soak up rainwater, and have a tour of the freely available Living Infrastructure Field Kit, a recently released community mapping and co-design platform developed by Spherical in conjunction with Accelerate Resilience L.A.. We will discuss various ways of approaching funding for community resilience projects in California and beyond.

The conversations in our first three workshops were really inspiring.

• On January 25th we focused on framing new questions about fire, we looked at the elements that create fire risks, and how land management can influence fire resilience.

• On February 2nd we reflected on our our own personal history with fire and how our understandings have evolved over time, and how human beliefs influence ecosystems, industry "best practices," human relationships, and policy.

• On February 9th we started work towards a strategic plan.
